LATEST NEWS
From 1 November 2024, NZTA will cease administration and registration of TTM warrants where there is an identical unit standard offering.
This means that the TMO-NP, TMO, STMS Universal, STMS (A/B/C) -NP, and STMS (A/B/C) warrants will no longer be issued and the training will continue to be delivered as Unit Standards 31958, 31959, 31960, 31961, 31962, and 31963.
Inspector, Mobile -NP and Mobile P warrants will continue to be administered by NZTA.

To find your National Student Number:
- If you’re currently at school, you can ask your school for your NSN, OR
- call the NZQA call centre on 0800 697 296, OR
- Click here and follow the instructions.
How do I find my Waka Kotahi ID number?
To find your Waka Kotahi ID Number:
- Go to Waka Kotahi
- Enter the first initial of your last name in the Last Name field
- Enter your date of birth in the Date of Birth field
- Click the Search button - this will bring up your current information.
Please note, it can take Waka Kotahi up to 12 weeks to process their data. If you have done a course and the details don't show up on their website after 12 weeks, please contact Waka Kotahi directly at copttm.quals@nzta.govt.nz to find out more.
Where is my Waka Kotahi ID Warrant/Card?
Your ID card will be sent to you directly by Waka Kotahi once they have processed your achievement. Please be aware, they do NOT send ID cards for non-practicing warrants, as they can't be used in a live environment. However, you can request a card for a non-practicing warrant, or order a replacement for a lost or stolen card, by emailing Waka Kotahi directly at copttm.quals@nzta.govt.nz.
How do I become a practicing STMS?
On 1 April 2021, Waka Kotahi changed the training and competency model for temporary traffic management. If you have had no prior TTM training, this is the pathway to becoming a practicing STMS on any category of road:
- TTM Worker Workshop (at this point, you are a practicing TTM Worker)
- TMO -NP Workshop
- TMO Mentoring and Practical Assessment (at this point, you are a practicing Traffic Management Operative)
- STMS Universal Two Day -NP Workshop (if you have a current TC warrant and wish to become an STMS, you can start from this point)
- STMS Category A, B, and/or C -NP Workshops (depending on the categories of road you wish to work on)
- STMS Category A, B, and/or C Mentoring and Practical Assessments
The non-practicing workshops must be completed in this order. The mentoring and practical assessments can be completed any time after you complete the corresponding workshop, however the TMO Practical Assessment must be completed prior to the STMS Practical Assessment(s).
How do I refresh my warrant?
Current or expired TMO or TC Warrant
To refresh a current or expired TMO or TC warrant, you need to do the following:
- TMO -NP Workshop
- TMO Practical Assessment (at this point, you are a practicing Traffic Management Operative)
STMS Cat A/B/C or L1 or L2/3 STMS current or expired less than 12 months ago
To refresh a current STMS Cat A, B, and/or C warrant, L1 STMS warrant, or L2/3 STMS warrant (or one that has expired less than 12 months ago), you need to do the following:
- STMS Category A, B, and/or C -NP Workshops (depending on the categories of road you wish to work on. L1 is now Cat A and B, L2/3 is now Cat A, B, and C)
- STMS Category Al, B, and/or C Practical Assessments
STMS Cat A/B/C or L1 or L2/3 STMS warrant expired more than 12 months ago
To refresh a STMS Cat A, B, and/or C warrant, L1 STMS warrant, or L2/3 STMS warrant that has expired more than 12 months ago, you need to do the following:
- STMS Cat A and B -NP Workshops (for expired L1 STMS), OR
- STMS Cat A, B, and C -NP Workshops (for expired L2/3 STMS), AND
- STMS Cat A and B Practical Assessments (for expired L1 STMS), OR
- STMS Cat A, B, and C Practical Assessments (for expired L2/3 STMS)
How do I book Mentoring and/or a Practical Assessment?
To book TMO or STMS mentoring or practical assessments, please contact us at shannon.bossink@tmnz.co to request a date and pricing.
Please let us know:
- Your first name, last name and date of birth (so that we can check and ensure you are eligible for the training you want)
- If you need to hire resources from your local TMNZ branch for the training
- Your company's accounts payable details
- What purchase order number to use for the booking and the resources.
How do I make an online booking?
If this is your first time in our new booking system, you will need to create a login. To do this, go to the Home page or Upcoming Training Page, find the course you wish to book, and click the Register button.
IMPORTANT: ONLY enter an Accounts Payable email address when entering your contact details. You will be able to include your normal contact email address when you book a workshop.
When creating a login, you will need to verify your email address before you can continue any further.
If you have already created an account in our new booking system, go to Login and enter your details.
On the Home page or Upcoming Training page, find the course you wish to book and click the Register button.Shopping Cart. Enter the details of the attendee(s) for this course. When complete, click the Proceed to Checkout button.
Checkout.
- Payer: Select whether you are paying through an organisation or as an individual. If paying through an organisation, enter the organisation name.
- Order Contact: Complete the order contact details (your details). IMPORTANT: enter your contact email address on this page.
- Billing Address: Enter the postal address of your organisation, or your personal postal address if paying as an individual.
- Payment Details: IMPORTANT: ALL bookings require a purchase order number. If you don’t use purchase order numbers, please enter your first name.
Then select a payment method:
- Invoice (if you DON’T have an account with Training and Mentoring NZ)
- Account (if you DO have an account with us)
- Credit Card (if paying by credit card)
If you are unsure whether you have an account with us, please select Invoice as your payment method.
- Terms and Conditions: Please read through the terms and conditions, then select the check box.
- Click the Review and Confirm button.
Review Details. Please check your details carefully, and click the Cancel link if anything is incorrect. If your order is complete, click the Confirm button.
Finish. The Thank You screen will show when your booking is complete.
When logged in, you will be able to see:
- Your Workshops – any workshops you have booked to attend
- Your eLearning – this function is not yet available
- Your Waiting List – any courses you are on a waiting list for
- Your Orders – all bookings you have made
- Your Profile – your details, some of which you can update online.
